The sun shone on Saturday and the heavens opened on Sunday but nothing could stop nearly 2000 young boys and girls having an amazing weekend of football at Parc Ynysderw over the bank holiday
A total of 170 teams from Under 6s up to Under 14s came over the two days and brought their parents, grandparents and friends. They served up some excellent football which is testament to the effort and skill of all the good coaches out there.
From our perspective here at Pontardawe Town FC it couldn't have been a better weekend (well maybe the rain could have stayed away) as the whole tournament went smoothly which is thanks to an amazing team who worked solidly leading up to and over the weekend and had a great laugh doing so.
The festival leader was the wonderful Bob Woolford who led from the front and kept everyone focused from start to finish especially in the refreshments area which was the busiest it has ever been.
Then there was Alun Evans who organised us volunteers outside and ensured everything ran smoothly with the pitches, the car parks and the entrance gate. Alun also chaired all the organisation meetings, developed the pitch plans and so much more
Special mentioned for Marcus Westmoreland who, together with Alun, organised the fixtures for the weekend and dealt with any late changes without any issues. Marcus organised and ran the competitive games as well as organised the referees.
Then there were the rest of the team who did everything from cooking burgers and bacon, selling everything from hot dogs to tea & coffee, parking cars, marking pitches, emptying bins, putting up (and pulling down) goals and also, for many, ran their teams in the tournaments
It was an amazing effort by everyone #TogetherStronger #WeArePonty
