Parc Ynysderw looked fantastic as we entertained Divison One's Goytre United in this pre-season friendly. Our thanks to Geraint Jeffries, Josh Roberts, Jason Dykes, Wayne Williams and many more who have worked tirelessly throughout the short break between seasons.
So it was over to the lads to give a good performance against strong and experienced opposition who featured a number of ex Town players including Garry Taylor, Chris Allen and Ryan Griffiths.
The good news is that it was a good performance and overall for 60 to 70 minutes not many would argue that Town edged the game with a lot of the young lads putting their hands up with the season starting on August 13th. United were struggling a bit with our pace at times but despite a few chances the half time score was 0-0.
It was in the third quarter that Town got the goal they deserved as Josh Robert's close range strike was saved close to the line but referee Matt Jones deemed the ball had crossed the line and Town took the lead 1-0.
As with most pre-season friendlies the last quarter became a bit disjointed as Town chopped and changed to ensure everyone had a run out and that gave the Goytre United lads the edge and they equalised when unmarked Richard Ryan was able to tap home from a few yards.
The game ended as a draw and both sides can look back at this one as a good first run out with Town moving on to a home friendly against Welsh League newcomers Ynysygerwn FC on Tuesday night at 6:30pm
